The pattern is an elven philosophy that results from their long life. After living for so long, elves can pick up on subtle cues that other races may miss and be able to predict where things are heading. This can make them seem supernatural or psychic to other races but is mostly an effect of seeing it play out before at a different time and place. This also makes the elves prefer what they know, though what they know can include a lot.
